The Spirit of London Olympics

The spirit of London Olympics 2012 is alive for several reasons. Micheal Phelps, “the greatest Olympic athlete of all time,” retired with an 18 gold medal tally and 22 overall more than any other Olympian in the history of the games. Usain Bolt, the sprint king, did it again. There is much hype and rambling occurring when it comes to the 100 meters running race. It has to be, for it is the official coronation of the fastest man on the planet. To the delight of all Bolt didn’t disappoint his fans, for he reclaimed the gold medal.
Saina Nehwal is the first ever shuttler from the country to have won a medal at the Olympics. As Pullela Gopichand, her badminton coach says. “It is a great victory and this is huge for Indian badminton.” He also said that Saina’s victory will be an inspiration and will attract many more girls to the sport. It is definitely a huge boost for Indian badminton. I second what Gopichand says.
Last but not the least, and above all the London Olympics makes history by allowing a double amputee to compete. Oscar Pistorious, the South African sprinter, a double amputee, who runs on carbon blades, reached the 400 meters semifinals. However, he failed to qualify for the finals but he didn’t fail to earn respect, for it takes a lot of courage and confidence to compete for a double amputee.
