Placebo effect

One of my gym clients shared this powerful video in the Ironcult whatsapp group. Vivek Bindra, a motivational speaker in Hindi, speaks about placebo and its positive effect in the video. The placebo effect as Vivek says is anything that seems to be a real medical treatment but isn’t. It could be a pill, an injection, or other type of fake treatment. The placebo effect is a remarkable phenomenon. A fake treatment, distilled water, or substance like sugar can sometimes improve a patient’s condition simply because the person has the expectation that it will be helpful. The more a person believes they are going to benefit from a treatment, the more likely is that they will experience a benefit.
Vivek illustrates the positive effect of placebo effect by providing the example of an elephant and importantly, Anurima Sinha, the amputee to climb the Mount Everest. Listen to him, you won’t regret wasting your three minutes. On a similar note, Frank Forencich in the book titled Exuberant Animal says, “Belief always has a hand in physiology.” Yes, in any kind of medicine—eastern, western, alternative, and integrative, they can have a placebo, positive, effect.
Remember that we, human beings, are blessed with the most powerful tool on earth—our mind. Use it to harness the innate power you possess. As Vivek suggests, allow the mind and believe that the mind has the power to do supernatural feats. Anurima is a prime example to realize that the mind can do anything which you can conceive.
PS: But sometimes the placebo effect can go the other way, and the placebo seems to cause unpleasant symptoms. These may include headaches, nervousness, nausea, or constipation, to name a few of the possible “side effects.” The unpleasant effects that happen after getting a placebo are sometimes called the nocebo effect.
