Manohar Aich (pocket Hercules) finally surrendered to time. He was hundred and four years old. He was born in Tipperah District (now in Bangladesh) in a remote village named Dhamti. He was the second Indian to win Mr. Universe title and the first Indian to win the title post-independence.
I remember T V channels broadcasting him frequently mostly during local bodybuilding competitions where he used to be the guest. He not only had an impressive physique but also was proficient in physical prowess. I read that he performed bodyweight/calisthenics exercises with up to 100 repetitions per set. By the time I had seen him in T V he was a ripe old man. Nevertheless, he had an impressive physique. Moreover, he used to perform Nauli kriya, stomach lifting, and perform several repetitions of the abdomen roller on a wheel. The ab roller had impressed me to a great extent, and in fact I idolized him.
As a testament to his physical prowess I just read that he performed feats like bending steel with his teeth, bending spears with his neck and resting his belly on swords. Also, in a recent interview I heard him say that a simple diet of milk, fruits and vegetables along with rice, lentils and fish was his secret to good health and longevity.
