“Customer is God.”

I salute the Father of our nation at this juncture, as we celebrate the 2nd October as Gandhi Jayanthi. He is one of the hero’s whom I admire the most. The more I know, by studying, about him the more I respect him.
Please don’t think that I have digressed from the topic of discussion. I am elaborating on the topic on how gyms should function. And how Gandhiji’s statement about customer makes completes sense. Gandhiji says, “Customer is God.” He further substantiates his statement by providing us the following reasons.
“A Customer is the most important
Visitor on our premise.
He is not dependent on us,
We are dependent on him.
He is not an interruption of our work,
He is the purpose of it.
He is not an outsider to our business,
He is a part of it.
We are not doing him a favor by serving him,
He is doing us a favor by giving us,
An opportunity to do so.”
I try to remember his statement when I am in the gym. For, this statement possesses profound meaning. The minute I remember and understand the statement, I am humbled. However, I have strayed many times by not sticking to the above dictum by rashness and negligence. I regret that and have tried to rectify my shortcomings.
To further corroborate the above statement, I will like to quote what Kazuo Inamori, Japanese philanthropist and entrepreneur, says. “Too many people think only of their own profit. But business opportunity seldom knocks on the door of self-centered people. No customer ever goes to a store merely to please the storekeeper.” Isn’t it so?
I wish you all a happy Gandhi Jayanthi.
