Waiting For Motivation

I stumble upon frequently with a negative mindset feeling down and don’t have the right mood to workout. During these days I can conclude that too much thinking spoils the mood further and working out in the gym doesn’t materialize. On the flipside, on those days when I am low I blindly perform few movements to kick start the workout. A few easy movement patterns will boost the mood and help me to complete the routine.
Likewise, when I write for the blog I frequently encounter writers block—the condition of being unable to think of what to write or how to proceed with writing. I can’t type a single word on the keyboard. During those days, I give up writing and wait for some motivation to set in. Well, now after reading this small excerpt from the book which I am reading to improve my writing skills, I believe I should not wait for the magic to crop up from somewhere but just go and do it.
In the book Writing Down The Bones, Natalie Goldberg says, “If you give your mind too much time to contemplate a beginning when you sit down to write, your monkey mind might meander over many topics and never quite get to putting a word on the page.” She further advices that we need to list a few things and try to activate writing.
What is the take home message?
For example, say that you need to visit the gym as you are scheduled to workout. However, you feel lazy to go to the gym. I believe the best possible way out would be to just head to the gym and everything else will fall into place. Perhaps, the ambience of the gym or the camaraderie in the gym might help you to get motivated and move in the right direction. Moreover, you are better off doing something than doing nothing. Well, this reminds me of the Zig Ziglar quote that is pasted on the gym wall. He says, “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing—that’s why we recommend it daily.”
Don’t wait for the motivation to come, for it maybe late.
