Ido Says

You know that I idolize Ido Portal for what he is.  Many times when I watch him move, I get depressed.  Reason; It’s extremely difficult to try to replicate him.  According to me he is the man who has the best body.  He has not only a beautiful physique but also a body that can be maneuvered in anyway.

I stumbled upon this write up by Ido that was published in Facebook.  I think what he says is paramount.  He says that the whole world is for instant gratification, and nobody thinks in the long term.

On a similar note, I see so many want-to-bes who come to join the gym.  Many dream about losing oodles of fat in few weeks.  Some want a six pack in a fortnight.  Few of them are aspirants of a herculean physique in a few months.  However, when they hear the truth from me that it takes several months or years to fulfill their dream, they just give up.  It’s so depressing to know when they do that.

Nonetheless, allow me to share Ido Portal’s view. He says, “YOU are not going to foam roll yourself into a side split.

YOU are not going to get a one arm chin from squeezing your butt cheeks together harder.

YOU are not going to fix your bad knees from strapping it with an elastic band.

YOU are not going to get lean by cheating your appetite with a suppressant.

All these things may work for a while, but just the act of pursuing them already comes to replace pursuing real solutions.

Truth is, wherever you look nowadays, there are shortcuts offered to you.

‘Life Hacking’, tips and tricks, etc – that is all we have these days.

Every system/book/method I see around lately is offering you their best icing to a cake you don’t even have.

Becoming a better mover is about hours spent daily for years developing the basics and then applying them into… PLAY.

That is how the best movers on the planet are doing it, they are not a collection of shortcuts which lead nowhere, even if in the short term you see some benefit – think long term, my friends. Movement = no shortcut.

Oh, yeah, one more thing, if you write a book titled ‘How to Become a Ninja’ – you better be one yourself.

The king is naked.”

I hope you got the take home message—think long term.  You are not achieving anything in the short term.  Even if you earn something it will not serve you any good.

For those of you who don’t know who Ido Portal is watch the video.  I would also like to mention that I had the good fortune to attend his weekend workshop in Singapore.
