Practicing New Skill

When you are learning a new skill it’s not linear progress that you can always seek. Just remind yourself that you are entering an unknown territory. You don’t know the end result. It doesn’t matter. What matters is the specific path you have carved to walk the road. It opens up new possibilities. However, remember to do the practice mindfully and quality attached to it. Anything less is waste of time.
Finally, you might be able to master the new skill or not, but the new path to practice teaches you a load of things—patience, perseverance, and diligence. You would have rewritten several things during the practice. It surely opens up new dimension to how you think and move. Many myths that you believed will be debunked during the journey. For example, the bodybuilding myth which says you need to complete your training session within 1 hour is farfetched and shortsighted. Why? There are several components to be addressed by a fitness enthusiast. He not only has to lift weights but also has to think about mobility and flexibility to stay healthy. When you want to integrate these things to your training regime, your training session will go beyond that 1 hour time frame. Moreover, when you consider about general and specific warm-ups, 1 hours’ time sounds minimal.
So seek to learn new things. Be receptive to recognize the new changes and challenges that are brought. However, don’t get bogged down if you can’t master the movement you are learning. As Steve Atlas, my coach, says, “Keep moving…even in your uncertainties, even in your fears—you will grow from it.”
The one and only thing that beckons you is practice, no matter whatever the end result.
“I fear not the man who has practiced 10000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10000 times.” – Bruce Lee.
