A New Year Resolution. Not Again Please

Another new year has come. In reality, we celebrate New Year, at this part of the country, while we celebrate Ugadi. Be it Ugadi or the calendar new year, but this is just another day for me. I don’t come up with promises, hopes, ambitions, or aspirations peculiar to this day. For, I have always believed that it’s now or never. I don’t procrastinate. At the same time, I also believe that it’s not wrong to have desires or expectations, or New Year resolutions for the New Year.
However, I am specifically concerned about resolutions that people take up during New Year. As far as I know, most of them whom I have come across have not stuck to their promises. I believe it is easy to get carried away and come up with inspired fast flying self-talk. Nonetheless, when it comes to sustained effort we fail miserably.
For example, gymming or any other physical activity.
What needs to be done? Frankly, I don’t know what to say. However, since I don’t belong to this false promising group I have no worries, whatsoever. However, the question of so called promises requires introspection. Imaginably, you will have to think in the long term. Not as an inspired task, but as a daily chore. We need continuous and frequent effort, and not sudden flash of exuberant intermittent attempts.
I believe somebody said that man is creature of habit. However, making a habit of good things such as physical activity and healthy eating takes more of your inner strength. You will have to come out of the comfort zone. A comfortable zone where you have taken health and fitness for granted; resulting in the human body becoming fragile. We think to get back our health in hospitals. My question is why do you want to wait till something happens to you? You have all the wisdom to take control of things, and start living healthily.
Right today I shared a Facebook quote that says, “A comfort zone is a beautiful place but nothing ever grows there.” Isn’t it true?
Do you want to get comfortable? I believe not. This reminds me of a beautiful movie that I watched twice. It is titled Rush. It is the true story of formula one racer Nikki Lauda. He says,” A wise man can learn more from his enemies than a fool from his friends.” The uncomfortable zone is your enemy, metaphorically. However, as Nikki says your enemy is there to help, energize, you. So, take the lead from your enemy.
