Undertsanding Diabetes Revisited
On the other side, Indians consume less protein. We should know that protein helps in stabilizing your blood sugar level. Protein blunts insulin secretion in the body. Lesser insulin levels mean higher the chances of better regulating your blood sugar.
Moreover, protein consumption helps in fat loss and in the growth of skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle helps in stabilizing blood sugar. Blood glucose (glycogen) use by skeletal muscle is increased because of its contractile ability. When protein consumption is coupled with exercise the advantages are twofold— muscle building and better regulation of blood sugar levels.
Eat protein, reduce carbohydrate intake, and build muscle by exercising—threat of diabetes is thwarted. Since diabetes has become the bane of our lifestyle, the regulation of blood sugar is paramount. You deserve a life of good health and wellbeing. “Everyday people settle for less than they deserve. They are only partially living or at the best living a partial life. Every human being has the potential for greatness.” Bo Benett. The greatness to achieve here is a life that is not jeopardized by diabetes; thereby enabling us to lead a life of vibrant health. Be great: integrate.

An intricate issue narrated, with the problem and solution, more like a story in few paras. Both your articles on “Understanding Diabetes” are very informative Sir. The change to which we (people who rarely do hectic manual labour) need to adapt to is the less level of carbohydrate and more level of protein intake – to adapt to a change, again cannot be done on a one-day basis. But it is indeed time for us to start living a healthy (complete) life. And I shall start off with bringing about the positive change within me and try to influence as many people as I can. Thank you for sharing the write-ups Sir! 🙂
Thanks Suhasini. I value your comments.

I showed keen interest on reading the write-up on ‘Diabetes’ as my father is a patient of thins silent killer disease!
Just curious, do you have any diabetics ( long term) currently working out under you?
Mangala, I will be precise. Three people who were borderline diabetics are free of medication. In fact, one of them was a diabetic who had urine sugar. Fortunate that he is out of all the toxic medication.
Two more people frequent the gym who are diabetics from a long time. All I can say is that one, 52 years old, who is on medication, says that blood sugar levels have come down. Besides, he has lost a few inches around his flabby midriff and has gained skeletal muscle in the upper body.
Great! always believed in the benefits of strength training but was a little curious about the effect of a high protein diet on a long term diabetic (10+ years) who has neglected his blood glucose values. Glad to hear the results though. Thanks for the info.
Mangala, I haven’t trained anyone who is a long term diabetic. That aside, I will surely consider what you have said.
