Proud to be an Indian

Deccan Herald, the daily newspaper, rightly says, “Two silvers and four bronze—our best ever tally. The only thing missing from India’s collection at London 2012 was the glimmer of a gold medal.” Yes, I very much hoped that Sushil Kumar would bring home the much awaited gold medal. Nonetheless, he performed at his best to obtain a silver medal. Moreover, we should have no regrets on Sushil’s loss, for Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu from Japan who won the match was simply brilliant on the day.

It was a nice way for India to wrap up the Olympics with a silver medal. This was the first time I felt to be proud of an Indian. Way to go champs. Similarly, I would like to state that it is high time the Indian populace embrace other sports.

It is very easy to brush-off the competitors and say that even after being a thickly populated country we merely got 6 medals. I can understand when you say that, for I have made such statements earlier. However, now I will never comment in such manner. Because I truly understand that all the champs, doesn’t matter if they didn’t win a medal, would have worked hard to give their best shot. We should understand that 4 years preparation just cannot and should not be undervalued.
