Is Drinking Coffee Safe?
Caffeine increases cortisol levels. Cortisol is a stress hormone. It is released when you are under stress. Yet, if caffeine is consumed at the right time, for example preworkout, it can work favorably—heightened mood, for caffeine is a stimulant. Also, elevated cortisol levels free up fatty acids to be burned as fuel. So, caffeine may help you to burn fat and get leaner.
If you are, however, chronically over stimulated by drinking several cups of coffee per day your adrenal glands continue to take a beating–cortisol levels stay higher than normal. Several studies have confirmed that it leads to loss of muscle and body fat accumulation.
Moderation is the key. Anything consumed in excess becomes toxic. Moreover, coffee (caffeine) is addictive. It can lead to dependency.
